How it works

The two switches are mounted on either side of the conveyor with the rope stretched between them, under the carrying belt. If the belt rips, material falling through the tear or a hanging flap of belt pulls the rope and operates the switch, which trips the conveyor so a tear is caught early instead of running along the belt.

Where it is used

Belt tear switches protect long, expensive belts on bulk material conveyors: coal, cement, fertilizer, mining and power plants. They are fitted near loading points, where sharp material is most likely to cut the belt, and work alongside belt sway and pull cord switches.
